After one of the most fantastic winter seasons in recent memory, we are calling the Lake Windermere and Lake Lillian Whiteways “Closed” as of this week because of the warm temperatures.

Thanks for a great season - particularly to Brad Kitching, the Whiteway operator who maintains the trails tirelessly through the winter. Thanks are also due to the DOI and RDEK for their ongoing support of the Whiteway, and to every single person who donated a day use fee or purchased a membership in support of the trail and our non-profit club!
Although this season will be hard to beat, we’re all hoping next year is even better!!
Coach Ted with his usual (loud) words of wisdom :).
Costume prize winners! Soo many Waldo and Wendas!
Someone must have put a pox on our equipment this year - the skidoo we use to set xc ski tracks is now fixed, but the trailer used to transport it is now in need of repair. For this reason we can only set tracks...
Looking at the weather for the week ahead, this may be one of the last nice days to enjoy the Whiteway in full winter glory! Take full advantage of this gorgeous day and come on down for a skate or a ski on the lake...
The sweeping fairy came last night! It’s windy out there but we’ve got a fire going and are enjoying the snow capped mountain views. Come on down for a family skate before we get any flurries!
The Weekly Whiteway report didn't make it into the newspaper today - so here's our update for the week ahead:

It was incredibly busy on the Whiteway last weekend, and the skating ice is showing a bit of wear as a result. A number of bumps and cracks to watch out for. But overall it is still in good shape, and we’re hoping it will stay that way for a while yet.
Our groomer-extraordinaire will be away this weekend, so the skating trail will get swept up as best we can on Friday, but there will be no sweeping service over the weekend.
It’s looking like we’re headed towards some slightly warmer weather next week, so this could mean improved skating (i.e. fewer cracks and bumps) if it gets warm enough that the surface ice melts and re-freezes. Please do not travel on the trail when it is wet or just slightly frozen - we need a good solid surface freeze after a melt, in order to get that smooth skating we all love.
Our snowmobile for setting cross-country ski tracks was having electrical issues, but the parts are ordered and on their way so we should be tracksetting again soon. Hopefully fixed by this Friday. Thankfully we've only gotten a little snow out there, which has helped save the ski tracks while we wait for the snowmobile to get back up and running. Thank you for your patience!
Our sled used to set ski tracks is having electrical issues, so make good use of the ski tracks that were set on Friday before too much more snow falls. We will post an update when we're able to set ski tracks again! (Y)
Tracks are set and the skating trail is plowed. Beautiful and calm out there on the lake right now!
Fancy an evening skate? Brads back and things are groomed up! It’s going to be a beautiful weekend!
Lake Lillian is looking lovely! 😍 The classic groomer is fixed up and fresh tracks are set on Lake Windermere, Lake Lillian, and the Junior Johnson. Looks like winter's back for a while yet!
Update: xc ski tracks are set on the lake!
Come enjoy the skating trail while it’s still somewhat snow free! Swept this morning but it’s getting covered up slowly as the light snow falls. Early bird gets the worm today! #whiteway
The snow has put the white back in the Lake Windermere Whiteway! Not enough to groom the ski track, but the skating trail has been swept! Some bumpy spots out there, helmets recommended as always. Drop in between 1-3pm for a fun gliding contest, prizes...
Cheers to the Columbia Valley Pioneer for making the amazing Nipika Toby Creek Nordic Loppet front page news this week!!
